E9 Brewing Co. & Taproom
Project Type: Adaptive Reuse
Completion: Fall 2018
Project size: 8,950 SF
Location: Tacoma, WA
Recognition: AIA SWW Citation Award
The owners of E9 Brewery were quickly outgrowing their original brewing facilities, a garage adjacent to the historical Engine House No. 9 restaurant, where they had been brewing their local ales since 1995 as the first craft brewery in Tacoma. While the original intention was to supply fresh ale directly to the restaurant, it became clear as their ales grew in local notoriety that they would need a space with a larger capacity. Coinciding with Tacoma’s creation and administration of the Brewery District, the owners explored the idea of expanding their facilities into the burgeoning neighborhood.
